A commissioned work for Bauhaus Weimar University, these three panels explore the possibilities of of creating micro-environments for lichen and mosses on facade tiles. A solar panel harvests energy to power Peltier heat pumps. The center of each of the panels is cooled, and the heat radiated away by the aluminum sheet on their backside. When the temperature reaches the dew point, moisture from the surrounding air condenses, nourishing whatever organisms might settle there.
Each of the panels is made from a mix of concrete with different aggregates: One is an hard and dense UHPC mix, one incorporates chipped wood, and the third uses a foamed ceramic substrate for horticulture.
