Fragment City

pieces
rounded by the waves
memory of shapes
a city used to be

Surrounded by investment architecture, a small beach in Tallinn consists entirely of building materials that constituted the neighborhood before it was torn down to make space for expensive apartment buildings.

Not knowing anything about the old buildings, their shape, function, and inhabitants, the pebbles felt like a puzzle to me, with the overwhelming majority of pieces missing.
I decided to engrave them with fragments of a map of present day Tallinn, to leave a petroglyph of present day shapes on the man made material that nature is about to reclaim.
