exchanges of momentum. a network of interactions. an exotic material.
A collective formed by thousands of independently moving actors is simulated on a computer. When two actors come close to each other, they exchange momentum and a line is drawn between them in a projected image. Whatever enters in the path between projector and wall casts a shadow and is treated as an obstacle in the simulated environment, exerting a repulsive force on actors that come close to them in the image. Trapped between the visitors shadows and a simulated gravity, interacting groups of actors form dense networks, giving them the appearance of a crystalline liquid that reacts to body movements.
The physics behind the simulation were carefully tuned to give a good “body sensation”, inviting people to play with the dynamic system of never repeating shapes and textures.
